After over a decade of working in the film sound industry, I decided that I wanted to commit to making a major shift towards pursuing a career in the video game industry. I took a year and a half to explore and learn about the various disciplines from programming to 3D modeling. I became really drawn to Level Design. Creating missions, being involved in crafting stories, designing levels, and being able to work with artists and programmers all drew me in. After spending time creating some designs, I knew it was what I wanted to pursue. To speed up the learning process and to get the best learning experience I could, I sought after mentorship and found Senior Level Designer Ryan Smith (Ubisoft Massive) and Level Designer Max Pears (CD Projekt Red). They guided me as I created different levels and missions as well as lead me to the resources I needed as I learned the craft.
Past Work Experience
In my early years of working in film sound, I took on a few different roles from being a project manager in an audio restoration department to recording foley. From there I moved on to work as an audio technician on many scoring and mixing sessions throughout LA. Some of the composers I have done work for are Hans Zimmer, John Williams, and James Newton Howard. These sessions have taken place at various studios like Sony, Fox and Warner Bros scoring stages and at some of the composer's studios. Throughout my time in this role, I have learned to work in high-pressure situations where part of the success of an orchestra recording or mixing session would depend on my ability to set up, maintain and troubleshoot issues with the multiple systems being used. I learned to communicate effectively and interact with a variety of people from composers to engineers. I am now the Chief Audio Technician at my current company and I feel that this experience would prove invaluable in working in an environment with deadlines and a variety of communication methods and styles.
