Floating Ruins
Story Overview
Backstory
Atreus has not seen his father, Kratos, in a couple of years. His father left temporarily after the events of the first game and was only supposed to be away for a season. Now a teenager, he has set out to find him.
Intro
At the beginning of the game, Atreus has a vision of his father's capture and sees a prison made of crystal-like structures. Some how through some magic it seems his father has no strength and can not escape. Atreus journeys to find Brok and Sindri to see if they can help him figure out where his father is. They tell him that the prison sounds like a place that would be in the Crystal Kingdom of Krystallos on Jotunheim. The inhabitants are incredibly violent and come in all sorts of forms and sizes and the magic there is strong.
Environment and Mission Intro
At the start of the mission, Atreus has just traveled through a cave system going through a mountain with all sorts of wild creatures. After a long journey, he finally sees the glow of moonlight peering into the cave. As he begins to exit he sees a creature called a Kaynkery looming at the exit with it's back to him. As the player attacks the character from behind the entrance caves-in and Atreus is forced into a closed-off area in front of a castle-like structure. The walls are crystal and slightly transparent like ice. They are mostly colored teal. The castle is the same type of material but with a greyer color and sharper shapes. The ground is sand-colored and could be sand or dirt.
Objective 1
Kaynkeries
Kaynkeries wield two axes with ease. They are fast and have one move which is to attack you with an overbearing intensity one ax after the other. They also use the axes to climb somewhat slowly and move up and down the crystal walls.
Objective 2
Paungors
The second enemy type, the Paungors, will be ground-based and somewhat large in size like trolls but with massive arms and shorter legs. Their movement is gorilla-like. Fighting at a higher level will be better but they will do a running leap head butt. They can also throw things at you if you are higher than their leaping head butt reach. Fighting them on the ground would be foolish as they are fast and their blows are devastating. They can leap onto the second level where the bridge is but they can not reach the platforms above that level. Since these are boss-like in size and ability there would only be a couple of them at a time.
Objective 3
Chief Night Guardian
The Chief Night Guardian of the Kingdom who looks like the Night King from Game of Thrones comes out and there is a dialogue between him and Atreus. He tells Atreus his father has finally fallen. Atreus doesn’t believe him and they fight.
The player character has to beat the Chief Night Guardian and his remaining horde. He is a more muscular faster version of the previous large characters. He can leap to any point, he can shoot out shards of crystal at you and in close proximity he can slash you with his weapon.
Gameplay Overview
General Game Flow
Atreus at this point has received the Claw of Archimedes. This gives him the ability to traverse vertically to different heights This will be needed as combat will require to shift between ground level and the higher platforms. On the ground, the player will become overwhelmed at points but if he shifts back and forth he will have a better chance of success.
Major Elements/Mechanics
The Claw of Archimedes
These are gloves that only cover the back of the hand. This gives the wearer the ability to send out an ethereal claw that can grab almost any surface and pull it towards them if it is mobile or pull them to it if it is fixed. It doesn’t grab above a certain height/distance so that the player does not go over or outside of the gameplay area.
Technical Overview
Items/Power-Ups
There will be a couple of Health power-ups laying around
Difficulty
This will be a challenging mission but the player will have grown accustomed to some of the combat types. It will essentially be a boss level before he can enter the Crystal Kingdom.
